🚨Huge News: National maternity investigation launched to drive improvements

We are pleased to see the Government are finally taking action into investigating and driving improvements within the NHS Maternity and Neonatal services nationally.

A rapid national investigation into NHS Maternity and Neonatal services has been ordered by Health and Social Care Secretary, Wes Streeting. This is to provide truth and accountability for impacted families and drive urgent improvements to care and safety, addressing systemic problems dating back over 15 years.

As a Foundation we are glad to see parents voices are finally being heard and action is taking place to improve the level of support and healthcare that should have always been provided.

Health and Social Care Secretary, Wes Streeting, said:

"For the past year, I have been meeting bereaved families from across the country who have lost babies or suffered serious harm during what should have been the most joyful time in their lives."

The investigation will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will focus urgently on up to 10 of the most concerning maternity and neonatal units, with the goal of providing answers to affected families as swiftly as possible.

The second phase will take a broader, wider approach, reviewing maternity and neonatal care across the NHS. It will draw on findings from previous inquiries to develop a single, unified set of national actions aimed at improving care in all NHS maternity services.

Bereaved Dad & Managing Director of The Lily Mae Foundation, Ryan Jackson said:

"The goal for every woman and family navigating maternity and neonatal services is to leave feeling happy and healthy. Unfortunately, this outcome is frequently unfulfilled. Deep-rooted systemic failings and a reluctance to address clear warning signs have let down both families and the dedicated professionals providing their care.

The Lily Mae Foundation fully supports and praises the Health Secretary's renewed commitment to striving for essential change."
